Nicotinamide mononucleotide, commonly abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure consists of a nicotinamide ring attached to a ribose sugar that carries a phosphate group. The molecular formula is C11H15N2O8P, and the molar mass is about 334.22 grams per mole. In cells, NMN is an intermediate in the salvage pathway that recycles nicotinamide to maintain NAD+ levels. It is not the same compound as NAD+, although it is a direct precursor in one enzymatic step.
Inside cells, the enzyme nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, or NAMPT, converts nicotinamide and a ribose-phosphate donor into NMN. A second enzyme, NMN adenylyltransferase, then converts NMN into NAD+. NAD+ participates in redox reactions and serves as a substrate for signaling enzymes such as sirtuins, PARPs, and CD38. Because NAD+ levels tend to decline with age in many organisms, NMN has drawn interest as a possible way to influence that decline. Whether oral NMN reliably raises NAD+ in human tissues, and whether any such change modifies disease risk, remain open research questions.
NMN is present in small amounts in some foods, including certain vegetables, fruits, and animal products, but food content varies widely and is not well standardized. In laboratory research, NMN is used as a tool compound to study NAD+ metabolism, mitochondrial function, and cellular stress responses. Animal studies have reported changes in NAD+ levels and various physiological measures after NMN administration, but species differences and study designs limit direct extrapolation to humans. Human trials have largely focused on safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics, with fewer studies examining clinical endpoints.
Quantifying NMN requires methods that separate it from structurally similar compounds such as nicotinamide, nicotinamide riboside, and NAD+. Common approaches include high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with ultraviolet detection, liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry, capillary electrophoresis, and nuclear magnetic resonance for identity confirmation. Because NMN is polar and often present at low concentrations in biological samples, sample preparation can involve protein precipitation, solid-phase extraction, or derivatization. Isotope-labeled internal standards help correct for matrix effects and recovery losses. Reported concentrations depend heavily on the matrix, extraction protocol, and analytical platform.
Stability of NMN depends on physical form, temperature, moisture, light, and pH. The solid compound is generally more stable than aqueous solutions, which can degrade over time, especially when warm or exposed to extreme pH. Recommended laboratory storage is typically desiccated at −20 °C or below, protected from light, with containers sealed to limit moisture uptake. In solution, degradation products may include nicotinamide and related ribosides, and the rate varies with buffer composition and concentration. Analytical laboratories often prepare fresh solutions and validate stability for each method.
Quality control for NMN materials usually covers identity, assay purity, residual solvents, heavy metals, microbial limits, and moisture content. Certificates of analysis from suppliers may report high-performance liquid chromatography purity, mass spectrometry identity, and elemental impurity testing. Regulatory treatment differs by country: NMN is not an approved drug, and its status as a dietary supplement ingredient or novel food has been debated. Some authorities have restricted sales pending safety and regulatory review, while others allow it under specific categories. Buyers should verify documentation rather than rely on label claims.

Nicotinamide mononucleotide, abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure combines a nicotinamide base with a ribose sugar and a phosphate group. Within cells, NMN sits on the biosynthetic route that recycles nicotinamide back into nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+. Because NAD+ participates in redox reactions and signaling, enzymes that produce and consume it influence many metabolic processes. The compound is therefore best described as an intermediate rather than a final signaling molecule.
In the canonical salvage pathway, nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, known as NAMPT, transfers a phosphoribosyl group to nicotinamide and releases NMN. A second enzyme, NMN adenylyltransferase, then attaches an adenylyl group to NMN to form NAD+. Alternative routes exist, including a pathway that uses nicotinamide riboside and its phosphorylated forms. The relative contribution of extracellular NMN to intracellular NAD+ pools remains an area of active investigation, and the roles of specific transporters and enzymes are not completely defined.
Analytical identification of NMN commonly uses high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; HPLC can estimate purity by peak area, while mass spectrometry confirms molecular mass and fragmentation. NMR provides structural confirmation. Because NMN is charged, ion-pairing reagents or hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography columns can improve retention and peak shape. In biological samples, LC-MS/MS with stable isotope internal standards is often used to quantify NMN and related NAD+ metabolites. Method validation is important because matrix effects and rapid enzymatic interconversion can complicate measurements.
Quality control for NMN typically checks identity, assay purity, residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbial limits, depending on the intended use and market. A certificate of analysis may report appearance, solubility, water content, and storage recommendations. Independent verification can compare chromatographic retention time and mass spectrum against a certified reference standard. Regulatory expectations differ between research chemicals, dietary ingredients, and pharmaceutical products. Impurity profiles and stability data are often requested for product approval, and open questions remain about how best to standardize NMN measurements across laboratories.
These relations between penis size and attractiveness have therefore led to frequently emphasized associations between masculinity and penis size in popular media. This has led to a social bias existing around penis size with larger penises being preferred and having higher social status. This is reflected in the association between believed sexual prowess and penis size and the social judgement of penis size in relation to 'manhood'.

The first atomic bomb test, codenamed "Trinity "and detonated on July 16, 1945, near Alamogordo, New Mexico, used plutonium as its fissile material. The implosion design of "Gadget", as the Trinity device was codenamed, used conventional explosive lenses to compress a sphere of plutonium into a supercritical mass, which was simultaneously showered with neutrons from "Urchin", an initiator made of polonium and beryllium (neutron source: (α, n) reaction). Together, these ensured a runaway chain reaction and explosion. The weapon weighed over 4 tonnes, though it had just 6 kg of plutonium. About 20% of the plutonium in the Trinity weapon, fissioned; releasing an energy equivalent to about 20,000 tons of TNT. An identical design was used in "Fat Man", dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, on August 9, 1945, killing 35,000–40,000 people and destroying 68%–80% of war production at Nagasaki. Only after the announcement of the first atomic bombs was the existence and name of plutonium made known to the public by the Manhattan Project's Smyth Report.

== History == Biocatalysis underpins some of the oldest chemical transformations known to humans, for brewing predates recorded history. The oldest records of brewing are about 6000 years old and refer to the Sumerians. The employment of enzymes and whole cells have been important for many industries for centuries. The most obvious uses have been in the food and drink businesses where the production of wine, beer, cheese etc. is dependent on the effects of the microorganisms. More than one hundred years ago, biocatalysis was employed to do chemical transformations on non-natural man-made organic compounds, with the last 30 years seeing a substantial increase in the application of biocatalysis to produce fine chemicals, especially for the pharmaceutical industry. Since biocatalysis deals with enzymes and microorganisms, it is historically classified separately from "homogeneous catalysis" and "heterogeneous catalysis". However, mechanistically speaking, biocatalysis is simply a special case of heterogeneous catalysis.

On Valve's official website circa 2010, his function was described as follows: "Kelly is Valve's senior audio producer, responsible for creating sound effects & music." Around March 2011, Kelly Bailey left Valve with colleague Mike Dussault to work on their project Sunspark Labs LLC, launched in December 2010, developing iOS applications, their first being "Morfo", released in June 2011. The news caused some concern and displeasure from the Steam community due to the lack of any public farewell or notification regarding Bailey's departure. However, at a press conference in February 2014, Mike Morasky (the current composer at Valve), stated that Kelly Bailey was working with Valve again. On 24 September 2015, a collection of new music composed by Bailey was released as a custom music kit in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive titled Hazardous Environments. The music kit's description states that it was "inspired by the darker side of the Half-Life universe". On 18 March 2016, Forbes wrote that Bailey is no longer with Valve but that he has created his own video game company, IndiMo Labs, and that he had been spending sixteen hours a day for the previous seven months as the sole developer behind Vanishing Realms: Rite of Steel, a virtual reality video game with RPG elements for the HTC Vive. The game released as an early access title on Steam on 5 April 2016, the same day the HTC Vive was launched.

) drive capillary action in soil. A practical application of capillary action is the capillary action siphon. Instead of utilizing a hollow tube (as in most siphons), this device consists of a length of cord made of a fibrous material (cotton cord or string works well). After saturating the cord with water, one (weighted) end is placed in a reservoir full of water, and the other end placed in a receiving vessel. The reservoir must be higher than the receiving vessel. A related but simplified capillary siphon only consists of two hook-shaped stainless-steel rods, whose surface is hydrophilic, allowing water to wet the narrow grooves between them. Due to capillary action and gravity, water will slowly transfer from the reservoir to the receiving vessel. This simple device can be used to water houseplants when nobody is home. This property is also made use of in the lubrication of steam locomotives: wicks of worsted wool are used to draw oil from reservoirs into delivery pipes leading to the bearings.
=== Treatment === Daily dose regimens are preferred to admission of large doses at weekly or monthly schedules, and D3 may be preferred over D2, but there is a lack of consensus as to optimal type, dose, duration or what to measure to deem success. Daily regimens on the order of 4,000 IU/day (for other than infants) have a greater effect on 25(OH)D recovery from deficiency and a lower risk of side effects compared to weekly or monthly bolus doses, with the latter as high as 100,000 IU. The only advantage of bolus dosing could be better compliance, as bolus dosing is usually administered by a healthcare professional rather than self-administered. While some studies have found that vitamin D3 raises 25(OH)D blood levels faster and remains active in the body longer, others contend that vitamin D2 sources are equally bioavailable and effective for raising and sustaining 25(OH)D. If digestive disorders compromise absorption, then intramuscular injection of up to 100,000 IU of vitamin D3 is therapeutic.
Anti-drug efforts were seen as making progress by 37%, losing ground by 29%, and staying the same by 30%; 56% believed that the US and Mexico are both to blame for drug violence in Mexico. As of 2024, the DEA considers the Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels, tied to materials and services from China, as the major source of synthetic drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine, posing the biggest threat to the US. According to federal court documents in Manhattan, Gerardo Merida Sanchez—a former public security official in the Mexican state of Sinaloa—is accused of teaming up with leaders of the Sinaloa cartel to sneak large amounts of drugs into the United States. The indictment says he took more than $100,000 a month in bribes from Los Chapitos to protect the cartel's smuggling routes into the U.S. He was arrested in Arizona on May 11 and then transferred to New York. This case shows how drug production and trafficking networks in Mexico play a role in supplying a large share of the illegal drugs that end up being used in the United States.
==== Deformation metamorphic reactions ==== Deformation events may trigger metamorphic reactions which produce monazite. For example, a metamorphic reaction associated with the movement in the Legs Lake shear zone partly replaced garnet with cordierite. This reaction also generated new monazite with high content of Y, and dated around 1850 Ma. The age is interpreted as the timing of shearing. Monazite-forming reactions may happen a bit later than shearing after the rocks have been in re-equilibrium in response to a new pressure environment. That means monazite age may not be closely equivalent to shearing age, but it provides a more precise age than other methods.

NMN stands for nicotinamide mononucleotide. It is a nucleotide intermediate in the cellular pathway that produces NAD+, a coenzyme involved in energy metabolism and signaling. NMN is not the same compound as NAD+.
NMN is a direct precursor to NAD+ in the salvage pathway. The enzyme NMNAT converts NMN into NAD+ by adding an adenine nucleotide group. This relationship is why NMN is studied in the context of NAD+ decline.
Yes, NMN is produced naturally in cells as part of NAD+ recycling. It also appears in small and variable amounts in some foods. Its natural presence does not by itself establish that supplemental NMN has clinical benefits.
Liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry is common because it can quantify low levels of NMN in complex samples. High-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection is used for simpler purity checks. Nuclear magnetic resonance can confirm identity and detect some impurities.
